Swiss watchmaker MIDO is preparing for the Day of the Dead with a new limited edition version of its Commander watch, called Círculo de Luz. It was inspired by the Mexican Día de Muertos and the Aztec sun stone.
The dial of the Mido Círculo De Luz displays a riot of colors depicting the skull, an essential symbol of the Mexican Day of the Dead celebration, set against a background inspired by the Aztec sun stone, one of Mexico's most famous stone carvings. Thanks to a mechanism specially adapted for this model, its colors change with the time of day: bright during the day, ominous at night, and even luminous.
The Commander series has been a timeless icon of Midon since 1959, and this time it has been given a completely new and breathtaking look. The dial features the skull, an instantly recognizable symbol of celebration, surrounded by an Aztec sun motif. The limited edition features a specially modified mechanism, usually found only in the brand's BIG DATE models, which displays a new color every day through the small windows on the dial.
At night, eight shades of Super-LumiNova® bring the design to life in a spectacular show of multicolored phosphorescence. A domed and faceted sapphire crystal protects this unique design. The colorful display contrasts strikingly with the black PVD-coated stainless steel case and metal buckle.
To highlight the striking colors of the dial, MIDO has paired them with a stainless steel case and strap, both coated in black PVD. The satin finishes create a matte effect, which is accentuated by the Commander's distinctive round bezel, polished to enhance its shine.
Inside, the Caliber 80 movement is equipped with a Nivachron™ hairspring, which is highly resistant to shocks and magnetic fields. Visible through the case back, the oscillating weight of the Swiss automatic movement with a 80-hour power reserve is decorated with Côtes de Genève.
