The history of the Heuer watch brand began in 1860 when Edouard Heuer founded the brand. The manufacturer is based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, in the Jura Mountains, home to many watchmakers. For more than a century, the brand was known simply as Heuer, becoming popular among watch enthusiasts. However, 1986 was a particularly important milestone in the brand's history: it was then that the first TAG Heuer collection was launched, bearing the names Techniques d'Avant Garde and Heuer.
The 1986 series is both the predecessor and inspiration for the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Solargraph collection featured in today's article. With its colorful models and bold designs, the original Formula 1 collection immediately stood out in the Swiss luxury watch market, becoming a cult series. The new solar-powered models carry on this legacy with more modern technology and a redesigned look.
The new Formula 1 Solargraph collection features nine different models that combine cheerful color combinations and technological innovations. The watch's 38 mm diameter ensures comfortable wear for different wrist sizes. The case is made of sandblasted steel, and the bidirectional rotating bezel is made of bio-polyamide.
Bio-polyamide is a plastic that is produced using raw materials that are partly or entirely renewable and derived from biological sources. Plastics are a diverse group of materials that are similar in terms of their production. Bio-polyamide should therefore not be confused with ordinary plastics, which are generally associated with poor quality.
A special feature of the collection is its solar-powered mechanism: two minutes of direct sunlight is enough to power the watch for a whole day. When fully charged, it can operate for up to ten months without light, which in practice means that we don't have to worry about charging it. The mechanism's battery also has an extremely long life, with TAG Heuer guaranteeing reliable operation for 15 years.
Some models feature colorful dials with large indices or large Arabic numerals
Bio-polyamide is lightweight, sustainable, and allows for endless color combinations. The dials of these models shine in opal white, deep blue, or black, combined with colorful bezels, bezels, and rubber or steel straps.
The bezel features a seconds scale with Arabic numerals. The aesthetics of the watch face are greatly influenced by the shield-shaped indices at 6, 9, and 12 o'clock, borrowed from the TAG Heuer logo, as well as the date window at 3 o'clock.
The indexes and hands are coated with Super-LumiNova®, which glows white or yellow during the day and green at night. The watches feature sapphire crystal glass with an anti-reflective coating, which further enhances the watch's already excellent readability.
The mechanical sound of the rotating bezel further enhances the premium feel of the watch. Thanks to their ergonomic design, the watches are extremely comfortable for everyday wear and can be ordered with either a rubber or steel strap, depending on your preference.
