For more than 190 years, since its founding in 1832, Longines has been committed to achieving timeless elegance and precision. The brand's history is also closely linked to exploration: in the mid-20th century, as deep-sea diving became increasingly popular, Longines became a leader in the field of diving watches.
The most distinctive feature of the Longines Legend Driver series is the bidirectional rotating bezel placed under the glass, which is not only an aesthetic innovation but also protects the bezel from accidental adjustment and physical impact. This heritage lives on today, as each new edition of the Legend Diver collection continues to feature this unusual but unique solution. In doing so, it preserves the values of the past while also showing the way forward for today's watch enthusiasts.
In 2025, Longines will open a new chapter in the history of the Legend Diver with the introduction of three new models. The size and proportions of the watch's 39 mm stainless steel case are reminiscent of its classic 1959 predecessor, while meeting modern comfort and technical requirements. The dial and bidirectional rotating bezel are protected by a domed sapphire crystal, a characteristic feature of vintage models. The crystal has a multi-layer anti-reflective coating on both sides, ensuring excellent readability in all lighting conditions.
The matte white dial creates a clean look, contrasted by raised black Arabic numerals and elongated indices. The black contour lines and slightly light green arrow-shaped hands and indices are all coated with Super-LumiNova®, which glows in the dark. The watch's most distinctive feature, the inner bidirectional rotating bezel, is operated by a threaded crown at 2 o'clock. The zero point of the 60-minute scale is marked by a luminescent triangle. This innovative solution is not only practical for diving, but also provides protection against accidental adjustment in everyday use, while faithfully preserving the original Legend Diver's groundbreaking design.
Two additional models in the collection, the black and blue lacquer dial versions, are now paired for the first time with a color-coordinated, durable rubber strap. These straps combine a sporty look with comfortable wear. The straps are secured with a robust diving buckle, which provides a secure hold in all situations. The white dial version is fitted with an extremely comfortable, small-link steel strap known as a "beads-of-rice" strap. This strap has a safety clasp and can be finely adjusted for a perfect fit. All three models feature the collection's trademark embossed diver motif on the back.
At the heart of the Legend Diver models is Longines' exclusive automatic movement, code-named L888.6, which provides a power reserve of up to 72 hours. Thanks to its silicon hairspring, the movement offers exceptional resistance to magnetism. The watch has been certified by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres, or COSC for short. In addition, the watches comply with the strict ISO 6425 standard for diving watches, which guarantees water resistance to 300 meters and resistance to shocks, corrosion and temperature fluctuations.
The Longines Legend Diver models are designed for those who appreciate the rich history of Swiss watchmaking and the iconic design of diving watches, but do not want to compromise on modern technology, everyday wearability, and a clean, distinctive look. Whether you lead an active lifestyle, enjoy aquatic adventures, or simply seek timeless elegance in a reliable and accurate companion, the new generation of Legend Divers is the perfect choice for every occasion, embodying the Longines philosophy that elegance is a way of life.
