Longines Zulu Time: An unexpected big surprise

This year brought many interesting innovations from the world of watchmaking. Every month, watch brands caught our attention with beautiful pieces and enticed us with original innovations, leaving us spoiled for choice. And there was so much to see!

However, among the flood of beautiful watches, Longines definitely stands out, boldly combining its own history with modern techniques and enriching its collections year after year with interesting and beautiful models. Today is no different.
In recent days, the brand has attracted attention with its Longines Spirit Zulu Time collection. This is an extension of the successful Spirit collection, which has quickly gained a stable position in the watchmaking world. Longines Spirit Zulu Time is therefore another natural step forward. It could be said that we expected something similar. What is surprising, however, is the stunning modern freshness that the collection has brought with it. Yes, I write modern, even though this piece can easily be classified as heritage. This also testifies to the great mastery of the watchmakers at Longines. Simply put, the new Zulu Time literally blew us away.
The history of the model dates back to 1925, when Longines watches of the same name were introduced. However, the GMT complication had been used many years earlier, specifically in pocket watches from 1908. The Spirit Zulu Time is another successful chapter in Longines' rich aviation history. As the name suggests (the term Zulu is used in navigation and military contexts to refer to Greenwich Mean Time UTC+ 00:00), the first and most significant change from the classic Longines Spirit is the GMT complication.
The watch is enhanced with a 24-hour ceramic bezel, which allows you to track a second world time according to your own settings. The bezel is very delicate, neither thick nor thin, neither loud nor inconspicuous. It is just the right amount of dominant, giving the watch the necessary uniqueness. Like a crown on a king's head. The increase in diameter to 42 mm has benefited the watch; it does not get lost on the wrist, but at the same time, it is still very comfortable to wear.

They are available in three color combinations: blue, black, and black with a green bezel (my personal favorite). You can choose between a steel or brown leather strap. Incidentally, it features an excellent easy-change system, so you can change it yourself in the comfort of your own home without any tools. The dial conceals a number of details that fit together beautifully, resulting in a clear and luxurious timepiece. The alternation of shiny and matte surfaces on the case and bracelet gives the watch greater depth. The glass is sapphire and the watch is water-resistant to 100 meters.
Underneath the dial with Arabic numerals is a mechanical movement with automatic winding marked L844. ETA manufactured this model exclusively for Longines. It boasts a 72-hour power reserve, a silicon hairspring, and a chronometer certificate that guarantees accuracy within -4/+6 seconds per 24 hours. In conclusion, I would say that the new Spirit Zulu Time model series is a huge step forward for Longines. The watch has many surprises in store, which I could write about for hours, but as they say, it's better to see once than hear a hundred times.
