OMEGA Moonwatch: We compared the older and newer versions

The new OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional was under pressure from both experts and fans, as it had to meet modern expectations while preserving its historical heritage. Did the manufacturer manage to fulfill these conflicting requirements?

Since I suddenly had in my hands a model that had been working until now and a model that starts a new episode of the legendary Moonwatches, I decided to shoot a comparison video. I had the watches with me all weekend so I could examine them in more detail. Although I had held the previous edition in my hands many times, there is nothing like a direct comparison.

Although we expected the new OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional watches to arrive in the second half of this year, they arrived a little earlier. Along with them, we also received a model that we didn't even know we would see wrapped in foil yet – the previous model with the reference number 311.30.42.30.01.006.
I had in my hands a model that had been on offer until now and, at the same time, the latest model that starts a new episode of the legendary Moonwatches. This gave me a unique opportunity to shoot a comparison video.

At first glance, they may seem to be "almost" identical watches, but upon closer inspection, you will find that almost every detail has been redesigned.

However, I am not talking about the technical parameters of the new MASTER Chronometer 3861 movement, which replaced the original 1861 caliber. I am referring to details that capture the heart, such as the thinner case and bezel, the dial with a hand-applied 3D logo, crisper numerals, and a functional seconds scale. The bracelet is in a category of its own.
It seems to me that it is much easier to design a model from scratch. For example, if you want to make new diving watches, just stick to the basic parameters, such as a unidirectional rotating and easy-to-read bezel, a robust case, large Super-LumiNova indices, add a little of your company's DNA, and the model is born.
