The history of the Tudor brand dates back to 1926, when Hans Wilsdorf, founder of Rolex, created the Tudor brand with the aim of offering the legendary quality and reliability of Rolex at a more affordable price point. Over the decades, Tudor watches have become the trusted companions of the most daring explorers, divers, and adventurers, thanks to their robust construction and excellent value for money. The Black Bay collection, whose latest gem is the newly unveiled Black Bay 58, is one of Tudor's best-known and most distinctive series. The watch combines the stylistic features of iconic diving watches of the past with the technological advances of modern watchmaking.
The name Black Bay 58 pays tribute to Tudor's first diving watch, the 7924 model nicknamed "Big Crown," which was introduced in 1958 and guaranteed water resistance to 200 meters. The new model features a 39 mm stainless steel case that perfectly echoes the characteristic, more compact proportions of the 1950s. The burgundy red dial and bezel evoke the design of the Submariner model number 79190, developed in the 1990s, which has only existed as a prototype in the brand's history.
This prototype boasted a brilliant burgundy red dial and matching bezel, but it never made it to the watchmakers' tables or into the hands of Tudor enthusiasts. This red design is now reborn in the brand new Black Bay 58 model. The dial has a satin-finished, sunray-brushed surface with whitish silver accents, which give the watch a special shine in direct light. The red bezel is unidirectional, fluted on the sides and easy to grip, meeting the extreme demands of divers. In everyday life, this means that you get a strong watch that can withstand the rigors of daily wear.
The new generation of Black Bay 58 represents a significant step forward not only in terms of aesthetics but also in terms of technology: for the first time, the model has been awarded the Master Chronometer certification issued by Swiss METAS. This certification applies one of the most stringent sets of requirements in the watch industry in terms of chronometer accuracy and resistance to magnetic fields. Each watch is tested locally in Switzerland by METAS. At the heart of the watch is Tudor's in-house MT5400-U caliber, which features a silicon hairspring and a 65-hour power reserve.
The structure has also been certified by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC), but the Master Chronometer regulations are more stringent. The METAS certification guarantees a maximum daily deviation of 0/+5 seconds, even in intense magnetic fields. There are two prerequisites for obtaining this certification: the Swiss manufacture must meet the Swiss Made criteria, and the movement must have COSC certification.
The watch is available with three different strap options. It comes with a 3-link stainless steel strap in the "riveted style" of the 1950s and 1960s, a polished 5-link stainless steel strap, or a black rubber strap. All straps are equipped with Tudor's "T-fit" buckle, which allows for quick and tool-free adjustment of the strap length. Every detail of the Black Bay 58 evokes Tudor's rich heritage: the watch face features the angular hands known to collectors as "Snowflake," which are characteristic of Tudor's offerings.
The crown decorated with the Tudor rose can be found on almost all of the brand's series. The Black Bay line is the result of a subtle blend of traditional aesthetics and contemporary watchmaking. Its concept is neo-vintage, but its manufacturing techniques, reliability, and robustness meet today's most stringent requirements.
The Black Bay 58 Burgundy Red edition is for those who appreciate the exciting combination of tradition and innovation, distinctive design, and uncompromising craftsmanship. It is the ideal choice for anyone looking for an iconic Swiss watch that is perfect for everyday wear, eye-catching and impressive at the same time.
