Dive deeper than ever before with the Tudor Pelagos Ultra
Model: M2543C1A7NU-0001
The TUDOR brand, founded by Hans Wilsdorf in 1926, is one of the most influential players in Swiss watchmaking. From the outset, the brand's goal and credo has been to offer the quality and reliability of Rolex at a more accessible price point. The founder himself said:
"For years, I have been considering the idea of creating a watch that our retailers could offer at a more moderate price than our Rolex watches, but which would still achieve the level of reliability for which Rolex is famous. I decided to establish a separate company with the aim of creating and marketing this new watch. This company was named TUDOR Watch Manufacturing Company." - H. Wilsdorf
TUDOR watches have been popular for almost a century. Renowned for their robustness and precision, they have played a prominent role in the brand's product portfolio. The brand has also made its mark in the field of diving watches, and this heritage is carried on by the Pelagos Ultra, a symbol of cutting-edge technology and extreme performance.
The Pelagos Ultra is the most advanced Pelagos model to date, designed specifically to meet the challenges of diving. Nowadays, the term "ultra" is often used in everyday language, as marketing professionals try to exploit the term in advertising products that do not necessarily represent the pinnacle of quality and sophistication in the industry. In the case of the Pelagos Ultra, however, the term refers to actual technical superiority, and the watch's features not only allow but demand the use of the name Ultra.
The 43-millimeter watch case, made of grade 2 titanium, can withstand pressures of up to 1,000 meters, which is an outstanding value even in the category of diving watches. Of course, very few people will dive to such depths with their Tudor Pelagos Ultra watch on their wrist, but technical parameters like this are not about that. Rather, they are about the knowledge that if the watch on our wrist is capable of this, then can anything stop it in the challenges of everyday life?
The screw-down crown, a must for diving watches, is also found here, bearing the TUDOR shield. Recessed into the titanium case, the essential helium valve can also be seen, ensuring the watch's safe operation and integrity even amid the extreme pressure changes during the ascent after a dive.
During deep-sea diving, helium is forced into the case of the diving watch due to the decompression time spent in the diving bell. When the pressure decreases, i.e. when ascending to the surface, the helium begins to expand, causing excess pressure inside the watch. If this pressure cannot be properly equalized, it can damage the watch, for example, by cracking the watch glass. The valve ensures that the helium escapes in a controlled manner, preventing any damage.
The case back is made of grade 5 titanium, which further enhances the watch's durability. This material is the strongest and most expensive of all titanium alloys.
The unidirectional rotating bezel has a matte ceramic insert, which is coated with Super-LumiNova® for perfect readability in low light conditions. This is important for a diving watch, as adequate lighting conditions cannot be found at great depths.
The design of the dial is pragmatic rather than purely aesthetic. The Super-LumiNova® coating on TUDOR's distinctive "Snowflake" hands comes in two colors: green and blue. This makes the dial easy to read at all depths, protected by a domed sapphire crystal.
At the heart of the watch is TUDOR's in-house MT5612-U caliber. This automatic movement is not only certified by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres, but also meets the even more stringent METAS Master Chronometer standard. According to this standard, the watch's daily deviation may range between 0 and +5 seconds, compared to the -4 to +6 seconds required by the COSC standard.
The silicon hairspring in the MT5612-U movement makes the watch more accurate and resistant to everyday magnetic fields. The movement has a power reserve of 65 hours.
The straps of the Pelagos Ultra are also unique, with two types available for the watch. It can be worn with a satin-finished titanium metal strap or a black rubber strap. The watch buckle features a phosphorescent indicator system that helps determine the current size setting if it needs to be adjusted at depth.
The Pelagos Ultra is a technical masterpiece designed for unlimited use. Although few people are likely to wear it at depths of 1,000 meters, this watch can handle any situation. The resistance developed for diving watches can also be put to good use on the surface, whether for extreme sports or the rigors of everyday life. According to TUDOR's philosophy, this watch is not a tool, but an accessory to our lifestyle.
This chronometer-certified diving watch is designed for those who are not afraid to push the boundaries set by nature. The Pelagos Ultra is the perfect choice for those who appreciate the ambition of Swiss watchmaking and are looking for a timepiece that will prove to be a reliable companion in all circumstances.
