Retro world traveler from Mido: Ocean Star Worldtimer
Model: with silver dial and black leather strap M026.830.16.030.00
Mido is one of the most innovative Swiss watchmakers, particularly in terms of the water resistance of its watches. Since the brand was founded, the water resistance of its watches has been a priority, as evidenced by several successes. The technical solution called Aquadura from the 1930s was a major technical feat, and thanks to Mido's groundbreaking developments in the following decades, the brand had earned the title of “King of Waterproof Watches” by the 1980s.
The essence of this experience is embodied in the Ocean Star model series, which has been synonymous with durability and reliability in waterproof design since 1944. The latest model in the series is the Ocean Star Worldtimer, which stands out from the crowd with its 200-meter water resistance, excellent readability, and retro character.
The most striking element of the watch is the silver-colored dial, which is divided by red and black indices. The playful graphics give the watch a sporty look and are a historical reference to the famous sports watches of the 1970s. The dial features the historic Mido logo, which emphasizes the retro look. The slightly domed sapphire crystal, known as a “glass box,” has an anti-reflective coating on both sides, which not only serves a functional purpose but also beautifully highlights the texture of the dial. The hands and indices are coated with white Super-LumiNova, making the dial easy to read even in the dark.
The ingenuity of the stainless steel case is evident in the surface finish: satin-finished and polished surfaces alternate. The back of the watch features the starfish motif characteristic of the Ocean Star model series, which indicates the watch's outstanding water resistance. The unidirectional rotating bezel, typical of diving watches, is printed with city names that serve as landmarks for using the watch's world time function. The dial features a date window at 3 o'clock, which in this case can display both the day and the date, a particularly useful detail for frequent travelers.
The watch has a retro character, but also features state-of-the-art technology. The automatic movement, called Caliber 80, offers a power reserve of up to 80 hours and is equipped with a Nivachron hairspring. This solution offers increased resistance to everyday magnetic influences and minor shocks, ensuring accuracy and reliability even in magnetic environments.
True to the reputation of the model series, the watch is water-resistant to a depth of 200 meters, offering a high degree of safety both in everyday life and during water sports. The watch comes with a black leather strap in the so-called Bund style, reminiscent of the heritage of old pilot watches. This leather strap was originally used in the military, as the additional layer of leather between the watch case and the wrist proved to be more comfortable during long flights. The leather strap protects against overheating of the watch case, excessive perspiration, and vibrations. If necessary, the two-piece modular Bund leather strap can be converted into a normal leather strap.
The Mido Ocean Star Worldtimer is designed for those who appreciate distinctive sports watches with a nostalgic character and value high water resistance and a long power reserve. It was developed for those who want to take the travel experience with them on their wrist, whether for everyday use, weekend adventures, or their next intercontinental trip.
